Restored 1970 Chevelle SS raises $250,000 for AFF programs.

Thanks once again to our friends at Route 66 Motorsports and Super Chevy Magazine, this year’s Project American Heroes car, a 1970 Chevelle SS, debuted at the Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction on June 26. When the gavel dropped, the car sold for $250,000, the most of any car at the auction, with all proceeds going directly to the AFF’s programs. More info can be found at www.projectamericanheroes.net.

The Armed Forces Foundation (AFF) along with our partners Super Chevy Magazine and Route 66 Motorsports, are proud to announce the Project American Heroes III car; a fully restored and highly modified 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle. This year’s car debuted at the 2010 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car auction in Orange County, CA and on Saturday, June 26, sold for $250,000. All proceeds benefited the AFF, which was the largest amount procured for any charity at the auction.

"We are so fortunate to have partners like Super Chevy Magazine and Route 66 Motorsports, whose hard work and generosity makes it possible for us to pursue our mission and lend a helping hand to our men and women in uniform," said Armed Forces Foundation President Patricia Driscoll. "The money raised will be used to assist military families facing financial hardships and provide them with the support they so desperately deserve."

Project American Heroes began in 2007, and in addition to Super Chevy, Route 66 Motorsports and the AFF, the Project American Heroes program works with over 30 automotive performance aftermarket companies to assemble the finished project. This year’s Chevelle is powered by a GM Performance 550hp Supercharged LSA engine and TCI 6-speed automatic transmission and is equipped with custom Boze billet aluminum wheels and high performance suspension system from Detroit Speed Engineering. Additional parts for the car were donated by National Parts Depot, Edelbrock, Fesler Billet, Baer Brakes, Sony, Strange Engineering, Legendary Auto Interiors, Specialty Power Windows, Thermo Tec, PPG Paints, K&N Engineering, Painless Performance, AutoRad Radiators, Inland Empire Driveline, Soffseal, and Old Air Products.

"We are thrilled with the participation and enthusiasm over Project American Heroes," said Super Chevy magazine publisher, Ed Zinke. "The success of this year’s sale was beyond our wildest dreams. We would again like to offer a special thank you to our readers for their interest, our partners who contributed their time, skill and materials, and the military personnel who helped determine their final design. Everyone’s contributions made this project a huge success."
